Purpose of Job

To ensure the safe and efficient transport of students by keeping buses operational and avoiding preventable issues in bus transportation; responsible for the transportation department operations and transportation personnel for Weakley County Schools.

 

 

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

1.       Order, maintain, and inventory tools, equipment, and supplies

2.       Review applications, coordinate interviews, select qualified applicants for open positions, ensuring bus routes are covered and students are transported safely.

3.       Review and approve timesheets for payroll

4.       Oversee implementation of safe practices and procedures within department

5.       Supervise all transportation employees

6.       Ensure adequate and appropriate training of all bus drivers, bus monitors, mechanics, and sub bus drivers

7.       Work with software providers and mapping to recommend bus routes, stops, and time schedules with each school principal

8.       Supervise bus maintenance

9.       Communicate with highway department regarding issue relevant to student transportation

10.  Work with finance department to bid and purchase large equipment

11.  Work with Director of Schools to make decisions regarding student transport and conditions

2.       Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing

3.       Strong skills with software programs and email

4.       Must be able to make decisions that impact personnel and schools

5.       Must meet deadlines and keep exact records

6.       Complete all necessary trainings and ensure transportation employees do as well

7.       Perform other duties as assigned

 

Education, Skills, and Abilities

High School Diploma or GED; College degree or certificate preferred

Must have CDL with School Bus and Passenger endorsements

Must be 25 years of age

At least one year of supervisory experience preferred

 

Must have a CDL with bus driver endorsement. Note: We will train you in the first 90 days of work if you don’t have this already. This will prepare you to take and pass the required licensure tests.

 

Three or more years of experience as a diesel or other mechanic preferred; knowledge of diesel and gas-powered engines required
